Juneteenth, Another Excuse to Divide the Nation

June 22, 2022

When Congress and President Biden declared Juneteenth a national holiday, it was a capitulation to Black Lives Matter and other left-wing haters of this nation. I venture a guess that the members of congress who voted for this holiday had no idea why the proposal came before them. The holiday supposedly recognizes the end of slavery in America in accordance with the Emancipation Proclamation signed by President Abraham Lincoln on January 1, 1863. The fact is that the first celebration of Juneteenth was in 1865 by a small group of blacks in Texas who learned of the proclamation nearly two and a half years after it was signed. In reality, the Emancipation Proclamation did not free the slaves in Texas, or any other southern state deemed to be in rebellion until the Thirteenth Amendment was signed on January 1, 1865.

We have too many issues dividing this nation. We do not need to continually rub salt in an old wound. America celebrates Black History Month while half the nation maligns, denigrates, and curses the nation’s founders, destroys monuments of those we honor and admire, even monuments of Lincoln. They teach our children to hate our nation while filling their heads with propaganda and inaccurate accounts of our founding and evolution. There should be only one U.S. History taught in this nation, the truth good and bad, to include all peoples who participated in its founding and evolution. It is past time to stop dividing us by race. All these separate holidays and celebrations only acerbate and emphasize our differences. It is time to adhere to our national motto E Pluribus Unum, from many one. Enough with divisive holidays.
